Earthquake Story

An earthquake, that struck at 8:12 a.m rocked the San Fransisco Bay area.

A building named McHenry's Auto Supply partially collapsed at 2342 Plum St. This catastrophe killed two people and injured 6 others, according to Jennifer Vu, a public information officer from the Hayward Dept.

The resident whose apartment is across the street from McHenry's, Mike Beamer, said he felt a rolling motion that lasted about 30 seconds. He says, "I was eating my breakfast when the room started rolling. I dove under the table just as i heard an explosion outside and a chunk of cement flew through my kitchen window. That's when the creaming start across the street."

The center of the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richer scale, was under the Hayward Hills, according to Penny Gertz. Gertz called the earthquake a "Strong one" and said that occurred on the Hayward Fault, which runs under the Hayward Hills.

The quake was so severe, 12 police and five American Red Cross and twenty one fire personnel responded to the building collapse. Vu said, some of the workers barely arrived within four minutes of the quake.

The quake caused some people to sustain damage and require hospitalization. Three of the sx people who were injured were hurt seriously enough to require medical attention. Those individuals were transported to the Hayward General Hospital, according to Vu. Lucky she added that there were no other injures that have been reported in Hayward.
